Finding Her Purpose Being a double scholarship recipient has given Alexandra Papaioannou much-needed financial help—and a boost of self-confidence. Read Alexandra Papaioannou's Story Read Story Finding Her Purpose Alexandra Papaioannou, a fifth-year student in the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP), credits others in helping her resolve obstacles she’s met—--including her own desire to solve problems—while pursuing a degree in fashion design. Being a double scholarship recipient has given her much-needed financial help—and a boost of self-confidence. “The fact that donors and my college would see my work as something worthy of that money and that scholarship title is really huge. I almost can’t wrap my mind around it—that they would give money to a kid they don’t know.” Papaioannou says her constant questioning and desire to solve problems have made her path less than straightforward than others experience. As the recipient of the Margaret K. Valentine Scholarship at UC, Lauren was able to focus on athletics and academics. The scholarship is the first fully endowed scholarship for a women’s sport at UC. Lauren also found two life-long friends in her scholarship’s donors, Michael “Mike” and Margaret “Peg” Valentine.
